Useful Terms

Mobile Home

Any park home, lodge or caravan holiday home that has wheels is legally classified as a ‘mobile home’. Often ‘single units’ are referred to as mobile homes, although technically the term applies to all models, irrespective of size, style or method of manufacture.

Lodge

A vague term usually applied to larger mobile homes with a timber lodge appearance.

Park Home

A mobile home usually with a more traditional ‘bungalow style’ appearance, often for residential use.

Single Unit

The term the trade uses for any home that can be transported in one complete piece. These range from the smallest caravan up to around 14’ x 43’.

Twin Unit

The term the trade uses for any home that has to be transported in two halves and assembled on-site. These generally range from homes sized 16’ x 32’ up to 22’ x 55’ or larger.

Galvanized steel

A metal alloy made from steel and zinc which does not rust.

Gas combi boiler

A commmon type of boiler which supplies instant hot water as well as central heating water (if central heating is fitted).

Twin axle

A home with two sets of wheels to spread the load when transporting. Whether a home needs this is decided by the manufacturer and makes no difference to the home once sited.

Lagged pipes

Water pipes with foam insulation around them to keep water warm and help guard against freezing.

Siting

The transportation of the finished home from the factory to your chosen park, unloading and, if necessary, joining up the two halves on site. Connecting up to services (water, drainage, electric and gas).
